Yesterday was supposed to be the first official day of my grand experiment.  However, due to an interrupted sleep schedule, forgetting about a prior obligation, and spending most of the evening with my wife, very little writing was actually done.  I planned on staying up most of the night so that I could write distraction free, but after only an hour and a half was simply too tired to continue.

As you can probably surmise from the title, I've only written 1,300 words so far.  So not quite the speed I had hoped.  But I also spent part of that time working on an outline and fleshing out a few characters.  I should be able write uninterrupted for several hours today though, so that will be a better test of what I am capable of.

My main thought on the process so far is that it is both easier and more difficult than I thought it would be.  I know that's incredibly cliche, but it's true nonetheless.  It's easy to write the individual scenes, the dialogue, etc.  I'm not sure if what I'm writing is compelling or interesting in any way, but it's not too difficult to get it down on paper.  The hard part, for me, is making sure that it's all going someplace.  I worry that I'm going to have a series of scenes with little connection and no actual point in the grand scheme of the book.  I suppose part of my problem is that I'm still not entirely sure where I want everything to end.  I'm writing this book almost like a reader, taking things as they go.  I guess I'll just have to see how that works out for me.
